About the Item

Marcel Coard (1889-1974) was a renowned French designer and decorator of the 1930s. He gained recognition for his refined furniture, which combined simplicity with the richness of materials such as shagreen, mother-of-pearl, marble, bronze, ivory, and parchment. His career began in 1914 with a commission from Jacques Doucet, a prominent collector of Avant-Garde artists, to decorate his Parisian home. Coard distinguished himself through his ability to work with rare materials and create innovative forms, characterized by contrasts between dark woods and light decorations. • Gilt iron structure, decorated with Greek key motifs at each corner of the apron • Tapered legs connected by a stretcher shelf adorned with Greek key motifs • Ver-de-mer marble tops • Signed with the maker's stamp and the parrot mark on one upright • Very good condition, with signs of wear and scratches on the gilding (see photos) Dimensions: H: 27.4 in L: 34.6 in D: 21.1 in
