About the Item

1970s Vicario Chair by Italian designer and architect Vico Magistretti for Artemide. The Vicario was manufactured from pressed moulded fibreglass-reinforced polyester, a material that allowed Magistretti to achieve the kind of continuous, biomorphic curvature that would have been impossible in wood or steel. The shell flows seamlessly from backrest through seat to armrests in a single unbroken form. The Vicario was featured at the landmark 1972 exhibition “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the exhibition that effectively introduced Italian radical design to the world. Its museum credentials have only grown since: examples are held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Montréal. Comfortable and lightweight but also incredibly durable, suitable for inside or outside use. Vintage examples with no refinishing. According areas of wear and slight fading. Labeled to underside.
