1920's Bracelet With 17 Carats of Rare Untreated Gems a/k/a Specimen Bracelet
Located in Southbury, CT
Here's something you don't see every day. Or any day, actually. It's a one-of-a-kind circa 1920s "specimen bracelet" containing eleven natural, unheated and untreated gemstones in varying sizes and cuts. The stones range from 5.23mm x 5.58 mm to 9.24 mm x 7.50 mm for a total of 17 carats and are round(-ish), oval, rectangular and square. Let's unpack this highly unusual feast for the eyes, shall we? There are three green or "low" zircons as they are known in the trade. These are exceedingly rare gems, highly sought-after by collectors. You almost never encounter them in jewelry. Additionally, you will find three of the most coveted species of garnet: spessartine. Bright and fiery. There is a single blue spinel that looks like a Kashmir sapphire and a light to mid-toned amethyst with brilliant radiance which, while not rare like the other ten gems, is an especially lovely color. The remaining three stones are all prized zircons in seriously??? colors: a golden brownish-olive, a light pinkish-purple (It's the color of kunzite) and a rich sapphire-yellow. Each stone is original to this bracelet; none are replacements. All are secure in their sleek sterling silver mounts. The bracelet features long, rectangular open links that join in the rear with a simple—though stylish and distinctly Art Deco—trigger latch for the closure. From one end to the other it is approximately 7.25". You might think a bracelet of such rare and exquisite collector stones would be set in, say, platinum. But no, no, no. This is a *specimen* bracelet and the most important issue is preserving the color of the gemstones without tainting their hue in the slightest. Silver is the whitest and most reflective precious metal by a wide margin and flatters the stones, illuminating them while also keeping them clean from color loss. This is a dazzling, colorful and very flashy (zircon has nearly as much "fire" as diamond) bracelet filled with 17 carats of highly unique and collectable earth-mined stones. Whether you're a movie star, a gemologist or just somebody who loves color and high-wattage sparkle, this unique Deco piece is in search of its owner. If "11" is your lucky number, this could be your lucky bracelet...
