Fine Art Vessel with Cabochon Rutilated Quartz and Mokume Gane Metal Work

Size: Diameter 1-3/8" X 2-1/8"" Tall
This special Vessel features a truly artisinal gemstone created by our longtime partners at the Wackler Gem Company. It is a Doublet consisting of a hemispherical Rutilated Quartz cabochon bonded to a lower flat layer of Condor Agate from the Patagonia region of Argentina.
Encasing this special gem is another truly unique feature of this Vessel: a lathe-turned and Rose Engine engraved setting made of Mokume Gane patterned metal constructed from layers of Sterling Silver, Copper and 5% Shibuichi, a traditional Japanese copper/silver alloy for sword furniture and decorative metalwork. Each metal in the fused laminate reacts differently to the applied patina to reveal the woodgrain patterns that run throughout the thickness of the metal. These patterns are not surface treatments like electroplated colors so they are durable and can be restored to their original colors if ever needed.

The body is decorated with yellow guilloche enamel and applied laurel bands at the base and cover. The case is finished with a cabochon sapphire thumbpiece. It is hallmarked Fabergé with makers mark for Henrik Wigström.
Henrik Wigström (1862-1923) was one of the most important Fabergé work-masters. He joined the firm in 1884 as assistant to Michael Perchin and upon Perchin’s death in 1903 he became head work-master. Both lipstick holders are marked 800 the silver stamp for continental silver. Each lipstick holder cabochon stone pushes to reveal a flip up mirror section which adds an extra interest to this wonderful item. Imported from Italy for the London/British market this pair of Italian Silver Lipstick holders retailed in a premier London Jewellers. The leather-bound presentation case is lined with ruched pale blue silk and the silk in the lid is embossed in gold lettering indicating this would have originally retailed at PICKETT, Goldsmiths, Oxford Street, London. THIS IS A WONDERFUL AND RARE ORIGINAL ARTS & CRAFTS PERIOD, ART DECO STERLING SILVER BOX ADORNED WITH GORGEOUS LAPIS LAZULI CABOCHONS ON ALL FOUR SIDES AND ON THE TOP.
The Arts & Crafts silver work which is adorned with gemstones is highly coveted. This is an absolutely stunning small silver box which can be used as a jewelry box, ring box, pill box or for whatever treasure you wish. It has a hand hammered top set with the lapis in a circle design. Lapis cabochons adorn all four sides of the box. The box has lovely footed feet. I just love the gorgeous round blue lapis cabochons with the spectacular design in sterling silver. The overall effect of this design is truly magnificent!
The box is a delightful 1 3/4 inches (4.5cm) tall. It is 2.5 inches (5.5cm) square.
One of the rear corners of the top has a very slight indentation which is almost impossible to see.
The box dates to the Arts & Crafts period, circa 1900-1910.
