Thomas Higgart. A Fine Early Champleve Dial Silver Pair Case Verge Pocket Watch with it's Steel Crank Key. C1740. Dial: The beautiful silver champleve dial engraved out of a piece of silver, with Roman numerals filled with black enamel, outer engraved minute ring with engraved Arabic numerals at five minute intervals, all inlaid with black enamel. The dial also has raised cartouches in between the Roman numerals. The centre of the dial has been engraved Higgat London with a garland of flowers. The watch has it's original blued steel Beetle and Poker hands, which have survived over the centuries. The hands are set by putting the key on the centre abor and turning . Case: The fine silver pair case with the outer case being plain and the inner case also being plain with the winding hole to the back of the inner case. The inner case is stamped with the case maker mark of P.D which I believe to be Peter Desvignes, who worked from premises at 221 Piccadilly London. Movement: The excellent condition verge fusee movement which comes out of the front of the watch has a large beautifully hand engraved cock with garlands of flowers. Case: The massive English hallmarked 18ct yellow gold case (198grm) with plain front and back covers. The slide for the repeater is on the side of the case. The inner cuvette has an interesting inscription stating that the watch was gifted as a Token of respect and goodwill to Brother R. Kelly by fellow members of a Masonic Lodge in March 1899. A real treasure and wonderful find, This Omega Seamaster 300 has been worn daily by its last 2 family owners up until the last few s years at which point it was locked away in a drawer. We have purposely done very little work to this watch but what we have done we will point out. It has an original black dial with original hands. Bezel may be slightly later from a service. Well worn in places with the case as you would expect showing lovingly worn marks and scratches. It appears to have never been polished with the plexiglass appearing original too. The dial has aged and naturally discoloured to give a real genuine vintage feel and look to this Seamaster. It looks to be a really honest example of what it is which is an early 60's Seamaster 300! Our watchmaker has been through to the watch to ensure it is working as well as it can be mechanically and is now reading +/- 9 seconds per day. We have made one or two changes out of necessity, the strap fitted to this watch is a new authentic, black with grey lines, Omega Nato...
