French Line Vautrin Bronze Poem Box with Sonnet by Felix Arvers

A wonderful jewelry box in gilt cast bronze by Parisian art jeweler Line Vautrin (1913-1997). From a small special series, the designer created circa 1945-55. on which some French poems were cast in relief on the cover. This box features a well-known love poem "Sonnet" by Félix Arvers (1806 – 1850), widely considered as one of the most romantic French poems written about unrequited love and longing. Three out of four passages are shown on the lid except the third one. The box is lined with cork. There is a line on the back from casting, commonly seen in the boxes of the series.
Mon âme a son secret, ma vie a son mystère,

Et celle qui l'a fait n'en a jamais rien su.
Hélas ! j'aurai passé près d'elle inaperçu,

This fabulous circa 1902 cedar lined cigar box was made by Gorham as part of the company's Athenic range, introduced at the turn of the 20th century. The 3 pound 10 ounce rectangular mixed metal box has a copper body and bears decorative sterling silver ornamentation. The box rests on four silver pad form feet. The piece has a hinged lid which features a colorful inset enameled plaque at the center. The charming scene depicts an image after well regarded British artist and illustrator Cecil Aldin's 1830 work "The Oxford Coach". The underside is fully hallmarked and bears a Gorham date symbol which corresponds to 1902.

Vintage Enamel Green, Blue, Pink Red "Good Luck" Foo Dog and Frog Chinese Box

This remarkable vintage Chinese "good luck" small box has pushed out enamel jumping and leaping frogs and foo dogs in beautiful colors. Greens, light blue, blues, red, pink, yellow, black are amongst the colors setting off an off-white enamel honeycomb patterned background. It is dimensional and textural. The bottom is polished copper and patinated metal connecting all the other parts of the box. The interior is wood. It is from the original very vintage condition. This dates from 1890s and is truly remarkable. The bottom has been newly polished but one cannot polished the other parts of the metal that has enamel. Looks like museum quality! Marked China on the bottom. This is a special box...
