A fine 19th Century French Neoclassical White Marble and Gilded Bronze Mantel Clock Set with its original and exceptional movement. Bears the makers mark, Finot a Versailles. The dial supporting a reclining bronze classical muse on a rectangular white Carrara marble base decorated by a row of gilt bronze beads, the set rests on four feet. The cross in the hand of the bronze muse can be removed (see photos).
This 19th Century figurative clock is very decorative, interesting for its technicality of the dial and provenance. The bronze feminine muse and its shape has a perfect patina and is a remarkable conversational piece.

A very large and fine antique French clock set, circa 1880. It is of Rococo design boldly modeled in gilt bronze. Waisted keyhole shape with acanthus leaf shoulders, 'C' scroll feet standing on its original integral base. The top adorned with a putti and a musical instrument. To the sides are sound frets. The large dial is porcelain.
The design is attributed to by the highly inventive and influential rococo goldsmith and architect Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). Born in Turin, Meissonnier emigrated to France to work in the royal Gobelins factory in 1724 and in 1726 succeeded Jean II Bérain as architect and draughtsman to the Chambre et Cabinet du Roi. His designs for candelabra and other objects appear in the Dousieme livre des Oeuvres de J. A. Messonnier, Livre de Chandeliers de Sculpture en Argent published by Gabriel Huquier in the 1740s. A similar candelabrum in the Munich Residenz is illustrated in Ottomeyer and Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen (Munich 1986).

A Monumental 19th Century Regency Style Gilt-Bronze Inlaid Grand Cartel de Applique, In the Manner of André-Charles Boulle. This impressive and large cartel clock has a circular, arabesque chased, brass dial with Roman numerals on enamelled cartouches, with engraved seconds and steel hands. The rear of the clock is open cased. The dial sits within a waisted case, with large acanthus mounted gilt-bronze volutes, surmounted by a palmette mascaron and a figure of Jupiter as a child and an enamel cartouche signed ‘Thuret A PARIS’. It is supported on large foliate mounted scrolls and decorated to the sides with Boulle marquetry panels and lion mask mounts. An eighteenth-century version of this clock by ‘Mynuel A Paris’ (Maitre 1720) is illustrated by Tardy in ‘La Pendule Francaise’, 1ere partie, p. 141.
Initially conceived by C. Cressent, the design was further refined by A.C. Boulle before being embraced by J.J. de Saint-Germain. The earliest examples of this distinctive style bear the signature of clockmaker J. III Thuret. Only a handful of identical specimens of this model are known to exist. An exceptional and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period marble and ormolu three piece garniture set signed Raingo Frères, Paris. The clock and original matching pair of candelabras are raised by impressive marble bases with the clock raised on reeded block feet at the front and elegant fluted topie shaped feet at each side. At the center is a striking fitted ormolu plaque with lovely scrolled acanthus leaves and Rinceau shaped scrolls flanked by lovely fluted designs with fitted ormolu foliate chandelles. Impressive intricately detailed cornucopias lead up each side with beautiful ripe fruit and blooming flowers tied with a wonderfully executed flowing ribbon. The enameled clock face displays elegant pierced ormolu hands and Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic numeral minute markers centering the signature and framed within the ormolu bezel with a fine laurel band and the original hand blown glass. The graceful arch shaped top displays a superb ormolu reserve of the eternal flame, a quiver, and a bow tied to a berried laurel wreath with a ribbon symbolizing peace, prosperity, and protection. At the center of each candelabra is a remarkable spiral fluted support centered by four elegant curved supports with fine foliate accents and charming swaging chains. Above is the impressive richly chased acorn finial above the two curved fluted arms also adorned with remarkable chains and large acanthus leaves leading to lovely foliate candle cups. All original gilt throughout.
