CAILLOU CHAISE ROUSSEAU’S WORK INVITES THE OBSERVER TO APPRECIATE THE CHAISE NOT MERELY AS A SEATING OPTION BUT AS AN ART OBJECT. THE TACTILE EXPERIENCE OF THE PIECE—THE SMOOTHNESS OF ITS SURFACE, THE SEAMLESS FLOW OF ITS FORM—SPEAKS TO A PROFOUND UNDERSTANDING OF BOTH AESTHETIC AND ERGONOMIC PRINCIPLES. THE CHAISE IS DESIGNED TO CRADLE THE HUMAN FORM, PROVIDING COMFORT WITHOUT COMPROMISING ITS ARTISTIC INTEGRITY. THE CAILLIU CHAISE’S SLEEK DESIGN IS FURTHER ENHANCED BY ITS FINISH, WHICH CAPTURES AND REFLECTS LIGHT, CREATING AN EVER-CHANGING INTERPLAY OF SHADOWS AND HIGHLIGHTS. THIS DYNAMIC INTERACTION WITH ITS ENVIRONMENT ENSURES THAT THE CHAISE REMAINS A FOCAL POINT IN ANY SPACE, ITS APPEARANCE SUBTLY SHIFTING WITH THE TIME OF DAY AND THE QUALITY OF LIGHT. Build process takes between 3-4 weeks; please allow extra time for custom orders (materials and dimensions can be customized upon request). No two pieces will be the same, because each piece is 100% unique. Due to the nature of the material, the coloring may vary slightly from the photos. The metal is sensually forged to unique shapes through a manually intensive process, furniture that goes far beyond its functional use. Each piece that comes out of Anadora’s hands is unique, and contributes with a delicate touch of the sublime in a domestic space. The work itself is open to interpretation but her unique style and daring forms, certainly set the artist to be seen as existing somewhere between traditional disciplines and modern interpretations of sculpture, design and architecture. FEW WORDS FROM THE ARTIST: “I left on the surface of the object the imprints of my own fingers, of my hands, as well as the strikes and marks left by the actual tools used to shape the work. Later on, i took molds of my hands, fingers and of the tools that were actually used in the making of this unique piece, and duplicated them in cold cast bronze to complete the artistic statement.” For this set of works, the synthetic materials were chosen rationally in order to explain both the physical and conceptual materiality of the theme. Though, exactly the opposite for our case, the common perception of any synthetic material is usually disposable, mass-produces and low-grad. This gives birth to a discussion about the ethical value of synthetic materials and man’s ability to perceive it culturally. The story of the transformation of matter into an object, about the transformation of the object into a good, about the monetization of the good. PLASTIC CONCEPT: From the oldest of times, our species has experienced a strong symbiosis with matter. Humans have learned to model matter, turned it into tools, and then used it to create objects. The man of the 21st century has shaped the Anthropocene era to his liking; and plasticized it to his own mirror. The project called materiality, is centered around the last geological era, popularly known as the plastic age...
