The sheets of the steppes spread across the entire Poltava region. Somewhere they cautiously fall into the mouths of rivers, and somewhere they tickle the grass of forest strips. Every morning, such a landscape opens up to the eyes of aunts and uncles who travel from Myrhorod to Dovhalivka. No one says where they are going — everyone already knows. Among the green-eyed hills, in the inflorescences of grass lives ISHO — the great Poltava sage. It was he who said: “Varenyky is the head of everything”, “Show me your jug and I will tell you what kind of potter you are'', “There is an elderberry in the garden, and Gogol is in Dykanka”. Every morning they come to him to complain about life. The sage answers everyone in the same way: “So what?” (Ukrainian - “I sho?”). After such a question, troubles no longer seem like troubles and the happy residents of Poltava go home satisfied.

Serhii Makhno is an architect, designer, ceramist, and collector. He is the founder of Makhno Studio, a Kyiv-based studio of Ukrainian contemporary design, architecture, and ceramics. For 19 years Serhii and his team have been creating projects that change the image of Ukrainian design and architecture. He is also the founder of Makhno Product brand that creates designer products — lighting, furniture, decor, dishes and art objects. Partly, Makhno’s product design is produced at his own ceramic workshop. It was presented at Maison & Objet 2017 in Paris, Dutch Design Week 2017, Paris Design Week 2019 and Salone del Mobile. Milano 2019. In 2020 Serhii Makhno launched the non-commercial organization Makhno Art Foundation, and its first project is going to be the Home-Museum of Contemporary Ukrainian Art and Ceramics.
Serhii is a lecturer and speaker at Ukrainian design and art events, was a member of the jury of The Architecture MasterPrize 2020, DNA Paris Design Awards, Frame Awards and will evaluate works as a jury on International Property Awards 2021.
Serhii Makhno considers his main goal to rebuild the Ukrainian identity, our cultural code, which was lost as a result of many historical events.
