Bismuth Gradient

Mixed Use by Blainey North in AU

The Crystal Club, a private VIP lounge on the 15th floor of the Crown Towers Perth—a A$600m hotel and resort on the banks of the Swan River—is an example of luxury redefined. For this project Blainey North developed a deftly executed concept which manifested in a myriad of ways within the 1250 square metre space, from simple to complex, rational to playful, grand to intimate.

Early on, the stepped growth formation of the Bismuth Crystal with its strongly defined geometry, repetitive form and light reflecting qualities, was identified as an inspiration for the project. Part of the appeal was the crystal’s ability to scale up and make massive structural gestures within the space, but equally to scale down to the smallest decorative nuances. This project is densely, carefully detailed and highly calibrated and the level of flexibility this form offers allowed Blainey to problem solve as well as decorate.

The brief for the expansive space, with its far-reaching views of the Perth skyline, was multifunctional; an exclusive breakfast space in the morning, an all-day meeting place with private lounge areas and business facilities segueing into a night time destination for drinks at the cocktail bar or a sunset aperitif on the generous terrace.

With the Crystal Club’s 6-star, personalised check-in and individual concierge services, the design set out to exceed client expectation through seamless functionality and a sense of thoughtful luxury. This was expressed in the intimate gesture of touching a bespoke door handle through to the awe-inspiring quality of the colonnaded walkway, with signature stepped columns.
