CAFE NUANCES by UCHRONIA, the world of coffee reinvented

Uchronia has once again broken the rules and created a new coffee roasting house for Café Nuances, a jewel box of a space, next to Place Vendome that will open its doors in the autumn on Rue Danielle Casanova. Far from the industrial language common in this universe, the space acts as a prism, distorting the past into a sensual, futuristic escape from the mundane.

The listed facade of this art deco monument, which was once a grocery store in the 1920s, is still in its orignal form. Its metal door with characteristic motifs of the period have inspired the wavy supports created by Uchronia which, in the windows, artfully present delicate cotton pouches containg the precious beans. An elegant departure from the usual world of the café, the first room, which is also untouched, or almost. Tiles, marble walls, wrought iron, mirrors with bevelled designs and above all, a sublime ceiling made of eglomised glass (a technique dear to the young studio, which consists of placing a sheet of silver or gold under the glass and drawing on it with a drypoint pen), the art deco materials and lines mingle with two brushed steel pedestals, creating a dialogue between the periods.

A time capsule

The eye is drawn through the three streamlined spaces, uncluttered by product to the glowing orange of the espresso bar. The space-age colour and backlit gridded ceiling are grounded by the refined form of the bar, inspired by art deco furniture. It is only when you turn around that you discover the neatly organised packages of coffee from all over the world - arranged on the back of the shelves that form the coloured gradient of notched partitions of the second space.
