Cottage in the Woods

A cabin in the woods outside of Portland, this remodeled home is described by Kuhlman as natural, organic, cottage, cozy, earthy and heirloom. She and her family knew they wanted a dutch-inspired dwelling with a cornucopia of earth tones and unconventional yet traditional details that didn’t jeopardize the existing heritage elements of the house. While she manages the studio's operations, Kuhlman trusted Kidd’s design vision as her business partner and lifelong friend. The result is a spacious family home filled with earth tones and moody moments. A standout space is the property's living room, which embraces color to create a sense of coziness in tandem with the original exposed beams Kidd elected to preserve in order to maintain the home's character. Large windows provide sweeping views of the natural Oregon surroundings, which also inspired many of the green tones incorporated throughout the home. Kidd and Kuhlman were so inspired by nature’s purest ambiance so they went with a very organic palette to resemble the romantic and earthy colorways.
