Family Home by Brown Design Group in Los Angeles, CA

When it came to their own 1960s ranch-style Los Angeles home, while Ryan Brown and Diego Monchamp wanted to retain its character, they were keen on modernizing. They tore out low ceilings, opened rooms and put in vaulted wood ceilings - and then they created a floor plan to accommodate furniture they had bought locally as well as finds from trips around the world, including their 13-foot teak farm table and antique teak and leather Hans Wegner chairs. Though the kitchen they had in mind was to end up being the heart of the home, they still wanted to separate it from the dining and living areas. The solution was to create a chic glass wall using vintage factory windows, which adds to the wow factor of the interiors. The living room, with the long vintage oars on the wall, antique nautical lamp Brown found in Amsterdam, fishnet and fish-shaped tile around the fireplace; and the floating wall that separates the master bedroom and bath add to the wow moments in this cool California house.
