Harborside Residence

Apartment by Sandra Nunnerley Inc. in New York, NY

This project presented the architectural puzzle of combining four existing apartments. Two of the apartments have a wraparound wall of windows framing a New York harbor view of the Statue of Liberty and the other two adjoining apartment included a duplex. The solution hinged on an Art Moderne entry, and a dramatic staircase of oak and ebony that transports one from a shadowy gallery into a living room flooded with light. A muted palette and curvilinear forms -- an Art Deco dining table, Jindrich Halabala chairs with bentwood arms, a console, sconces and verre eglomise mirror by Jules Leleu, Fontana Arte lighting, and Ruhlman furniture pieces-- create a sense of relaxed harmony that ties the apartment together, inspired by the feel of a luxurious ocean liner.
