Hill House IV

Family Home by The Archers in US

A small 1940s post and beam style house had seen many design interventions over the years, resulting in a number of awkward spaces. Taking our cues from the house's boxy proportions and its many new aluminum-framed windows, while satisfying the clients' enthusiasm for color and pattern, we introduced a number of high-gloss, brilliantly-colored elements and set them against a pale grey backdrop, holding the disparate spaces together. Incorporating furniture previously collected by the clients with new pieces and custom elements designed by The Archers, the house was designed very much in collaboration. The custom modernist steel staircase lacquered in cadmium yellow is visible from the street.
