HUDSON HOME
The river town of Hudson has become an escape for New York creatives looking for a little more space and a slower pace of life. The homeowners, who split their time between New York, Los Angeles, and London, came to us to brighten up and modernize their new country home located just outside the town. The original floor plan was broken up, leading to a dark interior and a disorienting circulation. In order to address these issues, we removed non-essential interior walls, added windows, and opened up an exterior wall with folding glass doors. The result is a more open and communal living space. The natural and neutral finishes throughout emphasize the heavy timber construction, which we took great care to not disrupt with the new plumbing on the second floor. In the home office, primary suite and guest room, color and vintage furnishings create spaces that break the neutral palette and mood. The guest room’s floral wallpaper for example, was salvaged to keep a little of the home’s history and the clients leaned into the patterns with their decoration and styling. The result of the renovation is a home that has been modernized to meet the needs of the family who live there, without losing the character that attracted them to the property. We are excited to see the house grow as the young family continues to add to it’s history.
