Riverbend Residence

Family Home by Lee Ledbetter and Associates in New Orleans, LA

A 1953 residence by California architect John Dinwiddie in the New Orleans’ Riverbend neighborhood received a significant “makeover”. The approach for the architectural renovations, the interiors and the completely re-worked back yard were to create a more “high style” atmosphere while respecting the language and scale of the existing structure.

The interiors marry contemporary photography with mid-century and contemporary ceramics. The furniture is mostly mid-century modern (Robsjohn-Gibbings, Wormley, Haines), but with the occasional French antique mixed in, perhaps a nod to New Orleans and its plethora of good French antiques. Khotan and Oushak carpets soften the new cork floors. A pool and linear fountain were “inserted” into the shallow rear lot, and the perimeters heavily planted to create a large outdoor “room”.
