Rochester Home

by The Brooklyn Home Co. in Rochester, NY

After moving to Rochester, New York, following stretches in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, a family was seeking out ample space to lounge, work and play in their new suburban home. In 2009, the family moved into a contemporary Rochester home, but when the house next door went on the market a few years later, they were eager to purchase and transform the property with expansion plans in mind in an effort to mimic the brightness and lightness they were missing from Santa Monica. The couple brought on The Brooklyn Home Company, who had previously worked their Park Slope apartment, to complete a gut renovation and trusted the firm to select every last finish and furnishing.

The renovation moved the kitchen, enlarged the main bedroom and added another for the third child they were expecting. The main hall is framed by reclaimed wood beams from a 19th century barn and features a Workstead chandelier. Lyndsay Caleo Karol, creative director, chose Benjamin Moore Super White for all of the walls in an effort to create the coastal California aesthetic that was being missed. Light streams in from oversized windows in the living room where neutral colors were chosen for the B&B Italia sofa. Intiearth alpaca pillows provide softness and warmth needed throughout the long winters. A coffee table by The Brooklyn Home Company and a fireplace complete the seating area.
