Pop Art Peter Tunney Hand Pulled Silkscreen with Hand Coloring Painting Brando

By Peter Tunney

Located in Surfside, FL

Peter Tunney (b. 1961) Marlon Brando 2015 Acrylic paint Hand-pulled silkscreen with hand coloring on archival museum board. 40 x 32-1/4 inches (101.6 x 81.9 cm) (sheet) Hand signed and dated in ink lower right This is from a series titled The movie stars. Each is a unique silkscreen based on a licensed photograph of a movie actor. Each is unique due to the colors and patterns created by the artist on the photo image. Brando is a unique, hand-pulled silkscreen on hand painted archival museum board Peter Tunney (b. 1961) is a legitimate force of nature with boundless creative energy, spreading his positive messages in unconventional ways and delivering works of art to a worldwide collector base. He creates in almost every medium: paint, collage, wood, photography, found objects, and discarded materials. Peter Tunney is an American visual artist, publisher, art dealer, socialite and former Wall Street executive. He currently lives and works between New York City and Miami, Florida. Tunney first made his fortune investing in biotechnology stocks on Wall Street. He then went onto found for the now closed SoHo gallery "The time is Always Now" where for nine years he showed a vast collection of work by the famed wildlife and fashion photographer Peter Beard, some of which was created on site. In 1994 Tunney was featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, as profiled by Robin Leach, and mentioned as one of the worlds most eligible bachelors. Later Beard and Tunney had a dramatic falling out. A tumultuous period followed leading to Tunney's living in the nightclub Crobar while doing a performance piece and eventually to rehab. Today Tunney is a visual artist who works in the genre of neo-pop and whose work has been compared to that of Mel Bochner and Christopher Wool. Tunney is also known for his "Tunney Money" a system of art given in place of cash relinquished. one of his more high profile works so far was a billboard he did in the New York City borough of the Bronx alongside the Major Deegan Expressway which spelled out "GRATTITUDE" (in all capital letters with an extra T added on for emphasis) a word which Tunney has articulated frequently in his visual works. Tunney is also known for his surfboards which he turns into artworks often with his sayings such as "City of Dreams" or the aforementioned "GRATTITUDE" embellished onto them rendering the pieces of sports equipment works of art. In 2009 Tunney was commissioned by now Senior advisor to the President of the United States Jared Kushner (for whom Tunney had previously created a stencil overlay taken from his work "Don't Panic" for Kushner's newspaper The New York Observer) to establish an immersive work called "The Experiment" in the lobby of Kushner's fifth avenue sky scraper 666 Fifth Avenue. In the Wynwood section of Miami he opened a gallery dedicated to his work called the "Peter Tunney Experience". Now forthcoming with the kickoff of the new NFL season at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins in Miami Gardens, Florida, is a large scale multiple mural project mostly of bright colorful abstract works some with a tip of the hat to Football, a project which arose out of a dialogue between Tunney, Jessica Goldman Srebnick (CEO of Goldman Global Arts and daughter of the late famed real estate developer, preservationist and arts visionary Tony Goldman) and the Dolphins. Among the artists whose efforts are included in the body of work are; Assume Vivid Astro Focus...

Factory Under Arch/Green Arch 4

By Marina Stern

Located in Los Angeles, CA

This work is part of our exhibition Marina Stern Luminary, the first retrospective of the artist since 2007. Literature: Marina Stern Paintings and Drawings, privately published (2015), p. 6. Marina Stern was a multifaceted New York-based artist whose works ranged from Expressionism and Pop Art to the Neo Immaculate paintings and pastels for which she is best known. A native of Venice, Stern and her family fled in 1939 to escape Italy’s repressive racial laws. After living in England for several years, the family arrived in the United States in 1941. A bright and capable student, Stern graduated from New York’s Julia Richman High School at age 15 and soon enrolled in the Pratt Institute to pursue an interdisciplinary education in the arts. Despite majoring in advertising design, Stern favored her fine art courses. She graduated from Pratt in 1946 at age 18 and began working for advertising agencies. After a brief marriage which ended in divorce, Stern married her second husband, who encouraged the artist to study at the Art Students League of New York, under the renowned Japanese American modernist, Yasuo Kuniyoshi. In Fall 1953, Stern gave birth to her first child, Michael, as she continued to study at the Arts Students League. Later in the Spring of 1957, Stern gave birth to her daughter Nina, as she continued to balance motherhood with her fine art practice and commercial art and design work. Stern’s first significant exhibitions were in 1962 at the Waverly Gallery and the Osgood Gallery, both in New York, followed by inclusion of her work in the Bertha Schaefer Traveling Collage Show from 1963 to 1964. Stern made a splash in the avant-garde art world in 1964 when Time magazine reviewed a show at Amel Gallery which featured three of her audio-visual paintings. Time’s critic noted that Stern created the “cleverest noisemakers” in the exhibition. Time dubbed this work “Talkie Pop,” a label which Stern rejected. Following this recognition, Stern was selected for inclusion in The New American Realism at the Worcester Art Museum—a major showcase of leading artists, including Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jasper Johns. After the Worcester exhibition, Stern began to shift away from her “talking” Pop paintings to mysterious, interior scenes with orange, blue or black walls with windows or doors rising above black and white floors, often depopulated, but sometimes with figures. One of these works, Seven Minus Twenty-One Equals Seven, entered the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 1966. By 1969, Stern began to incorporate industrial images into these scenes, and in the early 1970s, Stern created her first Neo-Immaculate works of rural, and urban landscapes, which she described as her most satisfying work. Stern often depicted locations that she held close -- New York, New Jersey, Iowa (where her son attended college), Sharon, Connecticut (where her family spent weekends and vacations) and her native Venice, Italy. Stern’s success as a Neo Immaculate painter led to consistent New York gallery representation for over two decades, first with Lee Ault & Co and James Yu Gallery, and then Forum Gallery, where she had six solo shows. Stern completed a Neo-Immaculate mural commission for the Port Authority of New York, George Washington Bridge #1 and #2, followed by another commission from the NY Cityarts Public Art Program in 1976 for a mural on Mulberry Street. Stern also enjoyed solo exhibitions in Boston (Eleanor Rigelhaupt Gallery), Connecticut (Silo Gallery, the Hotchkiss School, J. Rosenthal Fine Arts Gallery, Tremaine Gallery, and Staib Gallery), Chicago (Michael Rosenfeld Gallery), and Santa Fe (Santa Fe East Gallery). Her work was included in group shows at over a dozen public institutions, including The National Academy of Design, The Staten Island Museum, Worcester Art Museum, the Oklahoma Art Center, and the Arkansas Art Center. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art hosted a retrospective of four decades of Stern’s work from January 19 to April 22, 2007, entitled Perception and the Cultural Environment: The Paintings of Marina...

Keith Haring Rain Dance 1985 (Keith Haring posters)

By Keith Haring

Located in NEW YORK, NY

Keith Haring Rain Dance 1985: RARE original 1980s Keith Haring illustrated poster announcement for a legendary Keith Haring UNICEF benefit party at Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage in 1985. An event organized & curated by Keith Haring; with cohosts including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein & more. A event organized by Haring on behalf of UNICEF’s African Emergency Relief Fund. Beautifully combines Haring’s trademark kinetic figures set amidst a standout blue and black color-way. Rare. Medium: Offset lithograph in colors on smooth wove paper. 1985. Dimensions: 8.5 x 11 inches (folded open). Fair overall vintage condition. Minor wear to center fold-line; minor separation to the mid far-left edge; surface loss lower left. Otherwise well-preserved. Printed signature, ‘Keith Haring 1985’ on lower right from a scarce edition of unknown. Looks fantastic framed. More on Keith Haring Rain Dance: Curated and organized by Keith Haring, Rain Dance was a 1985 benefit for UNICEF’s African Emergency Relief Fund. Participating artists famously included: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Levan, Fred Brathwaite, Christo, Francesco Clemente, George Condo, Crash, Futura 2000, Jenny Holzer, John Lennon, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Brice Marden, Robert Morris, Yoko Ono, Lee Quiñones, Robert Rauschenberg, Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Tseng Kwong Chi, and Andy Warhol. _ Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990), a Neo-Pop and Graffiti artist, had a short but prolific career centered on a vision to unite “high art,” urban aesthetics, and public spaces using humorous, irreverent, and poignant works. Born in Pennsylvania, Haring attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh for two years, planning to become a commercial artist. He found this path unsatisfying, and instead chose to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he met fellow artists Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring immersed himself in the culture of the city’s streets and clubs, and, in 1980, began covering the blank billboards on subway station walls with his Subway drawings in chalk. Haring’s bold public art attracted the attention of several galleries, and, by the early 1980s, he was painting Neo-Pop works and large murals full time. In an effort to make his art widely accessible, Haring opened the Pop Shop in 1986 in downtown New York, selling commercial items adorned with his signature, cartoonish imagery. Haring combined graffiti, hip-hop, and urban aesthetics, frequently depicting animals, figures, commercial icons, sexual imagery, and childlike motifs in pieces that were both playful and concerned with social issues. His work became increasingly confrontational following his 1987 diagnosis of AIDS. Haring resolved to work harder than ever in his remaining years, creating pieces with a fervent speed and devoting his art to social action in addition to his personal expression. In 1989, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, whose goal is to promote art programs and public spaces for children, and to raise awareness about AIDS. Haring died on February 16, 1990 in New York at the age of 31. In addition to hundreds of exhibitions held during his lifetime, Haring has been the subject of numerous retrospectives in New York, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Berlin since his death. Ducha - Shower Acrylic Painting on Canvas, Neo-Cubist Pop Art, 2013

Ducha - Shower Acrylic Painting on Canvas, Neo-Cubist Pop Art, 2013

By Jose Palacios

Located in New York, NY

In this original acrylic paint on canvas, Jose Palacios depicts a figure in a neo-cubist and pop art style in the shower. Using vibrant blues, pinks, purples, greens and yellows she is standing in the bath tub as the stream of water from the shower sprays over her. The style is reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein and Picasso. Palacios' work is characterized by it's geometry, precision of his figures and the use of a refreshing and bold palette. Jose Palacios was born in Spain in 1970. A self taught artist, he began his career in the world of comic books and illustration publications. He later transitioned to graphic design and street art. Jose was greatly influenced by the "Movida Madrileña" an explosive cultural period in the 1980's during Spain's transition from dictatorship to democracy which produced arist's such as Ceesepe, Fernando Vicente, Ana Juan, Ouka Leele and Javier de Juan.

LOREN MUNK (american b. 1951) MUNKEY BUSINESS Signed and dated 'Munk 84' verso, mixed media construction with paint brushes, mirrored mosaic tile, gold leaf and oil paint 57 x 33 x 23 in. (144.8 x 83.8 x 58.4cm) Provenance: Malcolm Forbes collection The artist Loren Munk (born 1951) is primarily known for his YouTube nickname James Kalm as an uploader of videos about New York exhibitions, amongst others. He presents himself as a maker of contemporary paintings for several decades and of cubist paintings of urban imagery. Munk has received accolades for his drawings and mosaics. He differs from traditional mosaic artists by the manner in which he incorporates glass into his decorative paintings. His unique and innovative use of materials such as mirror, gold-leaf and glass mosaic affirmed him as a founding force of Kitsch Art and a leading member of New York Neo-Expressionism. Munk's work debuted in SoHo in 1981 with a double show at J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. Since then, he has overseen an international career. In addition to exhibiting in Brazil, France, Germany and the United States, Munk has received national and overseas, public and private commissions. He is well represented in important collections throughout Europe, South and North America and the Middle East. Most recently, Munk has been producing a series of paintings which tackle the subject of art itself through a historical and diagrammatic lens. Munk documents the New York art world in YouTube videos, using the name James Kalm. By Marina Stern

This work is part of our exhibition Marina Stern Luminary, the first retrospective of the artist since 2007. Literature: Marina Stern Paintings and Drawings, privately published (2015), p. 36 Marina Stern was a multifaceted New York-based artist whose works ranged from Expressionism and Pop Art to the Neo Immaculate paintings and pastels for which she is best known.
