Biography: Linda Louise McCartney (née Eastman) was born in Scarsdale, New York, on 24th September 1941. She graduated from Scarsdale High School, Westchester County, New York in 1960, and went on to study at the University of Arizona, where she majored in art history. Although her formal training extended to just two lessons on photography that she attended at a night school whilst studying as an art history major at the University of Arizona, the pictures by Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and Edward Weston that she discovered there – along with her later introduction to the photography of Edward Steichen – inspired and influenced Linda’s work. Linda was also fascinated by the history of photography and honoured the early photographic pioneer William Henry Fox by producing handcrafted cyanotype prints. Linda experimented with other printing processes throughout her career as well as producing thousands of Polaroids. Linda got her first big break as a photographer while working as an editorial receptionist at Town and Country Magazine. She used an unwanted invitation to a Rolling Stones promotional party on the SS Sea Panther on the Hudson River to document the event and photograph the band. The magazine was so impressed with Linda’s candid, intimate and relaxed photographs of the Rolling Stones that they published her images in an editorial feature – her first of many magazine commissions. Linda became a professional photographer in the mid-sixties. Her pictures during this period chronicled the musical revolution of the decade. Whilst working as the house photographer at the Fillmore East in New York City she photographed many iconic musicians including; The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, B.B. King, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, The Beach Boys, The Who, Cream, The Kinks, Traffic, The Byrds and Jimi Hendrix. Linda’s photograph of Eric Clapton for Rolling Stone magazine’s 11th May 1968 issue made her the first female photographer to have work featured on the magazine’s cover In 1967, after being named US female photographer of the year, Linda was in London to shoot an assignment on the ‘Swinging Sixties’. Linda met Paul McCartney at the Bag O’Nails Club and then again four days later at the launch of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band at Brian Epstein’s house in Belgravia. A year later they married at Marylebone Registry Office, London, March 12th, 1969. After receiving credits on Paul’s solo album RAM, Linda joined Paul on stage, as keyboard player and vocalist, in Wings. Throughout her time in Wings Linda documented her travels and family life on and off stage. She went on to write and record several songs of her own, including ‘Seaside Woman’, released in 1977 through Epic Records in the US, under the band name Suzy and The Red Stripes. Linda’s album Wide Prairie was release posthumously in 1998. In 1989, Linda began to pioneer another passion, to save the lives of animals through promoting the vegetarian lifestyle that she and Paul and long embraced. Her first two vegetarian cookbooks...

PLEASE refer to the uloaded video of this light sculpture in operation, it creates a stunning otherwordly swirling ethereal lighting effect like a monochrome aurora borealis. Here we have an example of the very rare and famous light sculpture created by the artist Werner Epstein and edited in a very small edition by 'Inter Neo', France in 1970. It is both beautiful in its elegant sculptural form and in its magical , ethereal lighting effect. This design was exhibited at the 1972 'Salon des Artistes et Decorateurs' held at the Grand Palais des champs Elysees in Paris, and is published in the original exhibition catalogue. PLEASE SEE IMAGE 5 Unfotunately the static images can only capture just a very basic static idea of some of the light formations created as the sculptural spiral aluminum element slowly rotates as it captures the rising thermal energy emitted by the concealed incandescent light bulb in the base , there is no motor , just pure physics and poetry in motion. I have to repeat that the static photos really do not do this beautiful design any justice at all, the slowly evolving swirling ribbons of light reflecting off the surface of the slowly rotating aluminum spiral create a magical , organic and otherworldly lighting effect which is initially captured on the polished surface of the spiral element itself before being thrown outward as continuous swirling ribbons of light which are captured on the surfaces of the walls, floor and ceiling creating an extremely ethereal ,soothing and meditative lighting effect.. This is one of the most famous ,beautiful and rare of all the French avant garde lighting...

Marion Epstein (American, 1921-2002) Titania, 1973 Lithograph Framed: 31 1/2 x 25 x 1/2 in. Numbered, titled, signed and dated bottom For over 60 years, local artist Marion Epstein has worked through her art to bridge the personal and the political, family and career. A versatile and prolific artist, she has done sculpture, enameling, painting and photography. But it was printmaking that truly captivated her imagination. Like many artists of her generation, Epstein was powerfully influenced by the political activism of the 1960s. A member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Epstein recalls attending meetings out of town with her young son in tow. The anti-war movement influenced a number of her pieces. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" echoes the sentiment of the popular anti-war folk song. This very tall print (6-by-2-1/2 feet) in tones of black, cream and ochre shows a tall woman (Marion) shielding a child, with spindly flowers drooping around them. "I didn't do abstractions," says Epstein. "I was always trying to say something." Another anti-war piece, "Generations of Thy Children," combines oil painting and collage on a bisected canvas. On the right half, a lone figure of a Vietnamese child stands forlornly on a reddish orange background. The left side of the canvas is crowded with images of soldiers, artillery and politicians. Epstein's print "Metamorphosis," completed following her participation in a civil rights march in Washington, tries to capture the changes and uncertainty in America during that time. In the background a white man looms with a questioning, almost fearful look on his face while the black youth in the foreground has his eyes downcast. Works such as "Dream Deferred" and "Aching To be Free" also represent the artist's personal reflections on the struggle for racial equality. Much of Epstein's art is a complex layering of imagery and texture, line and translucent color. In her haunting print, "Ovens and Shoes," one of several works in which she addresses the Holocaust, she makes interesting use of photographic images from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Over a saturated black print of the death camp ovens, she has superimposed a pale ochre print of the pile of discarded shoes.
