What happened to 1stDibs?

1 Answer

Lots of things have happened to 1stDibs! We are a leading online marketplace for extraordinary design. Since 2000, we have captured the magic of the Paris flea market, connecting those seeking the most beautiful things on earth with highly coveted sellers and makers in furniture and home decor, art, fine jewelry and fashion.

The first couple of decades in the history of our global e-commerce platform have been busy. In 2003, 1stDibs moved to New York City and added dealers from the New York metropolitan area. We launched Introspective, the official magazine of 1stDibs dedicated to uncovering and illuminating the stories behind designs as well as their creators.

In the ensuing years, 1stDibs added verticals for art, fine jewelry and fashion and launched dealers in the United Kingdom, Europe, Scandinavia and elsewhere. In 2016, we transitioned from our position as a listings site to an e-commerce model, and five years later, 1stDibs went public. The company’s common stock has been approved for listing and is traded on the Nasdaq Global Market under the symbol “DIBS.”

With the arrival of Auctions in 2021, 1stDibs now enables guests to place bids on their favorite items — spanning furniture, home decor, art, fine jewelry, watches, handbags and fashion — offering the thrill associated with a treasure hunt and winning a beloved item at an exceptional price.

Today our best-in-class platform allows shoppers to buy directly, negotiate a price or bid on items at auction and enables them to interact with sellers throughout all stages of the transaction, including item inquiries, price negotiations and customization requests. 1stDibs works with a range of trusted prestigious sellers around the world, who are respected professionals in their fields, and the company is committed to shoppers’ satisfaction and peace of mind with every single purchase.
