A large Ethiopian Coptic processional cross in silver-plated bronze, handcrafted in Ethiopia during the early 20th century using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. Exceptionally sculptural in scale, the cross is mounted on its original tall hollow conical socket, creating an imposing architectural presence while showcasing the extraordinary intricacy of its pierced geometric decoration.
The elaborate openwork design is characteristic of Ethiopian Orthodox ecclesiastical metalwork, combining intricate latticework with interlacing crosses, circular medallions, and layered geometric motifs. Every detail would have been individually carved into the wax model before casting, a painstaking process that reflects the remarkable skill of Ethiopian metalworkers.
