What is the difference between croquis and dessin?

The difference between croquis and dessin comes down to the characteristics of these two types of sketches. A dessin is a pencil or charcoal drawing produced quickly with all the modeling and shading usually done in one color. On the other hand, a croquis is a quick sketch that has no shading.
