Cross - Town Rivals
By Patrick Wilson
Located in Morongo Valley, CA
PATRICK WILSON (b. 1970, Redding, CA) received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of California, Davis in 1993 and his Masters of Fine Art degree at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA in 1995.
For abstract painter Patrick Wilson, aesthetic beauty and visual pleasure are primary concerns. Using drywall tools, paint rollers, and masking tape, Wilson layers lines, squares, and rectangles in meticulously balanced compositions that, with the use of vivid color, evoke a palpable sense of light. Despite Wilson’s assiduous process, he also works intuitively, responding to his compositions as they evolve. “The key value of abstraction to me is its openness,” he explains. “The best abstraction isn’t didactic, it’s experiential.”
He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, Culver City, CA; “Evolving Geometries: Line, Form, and Color,” Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA; “Steak Night,” Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, Culver City, CA; “Patrick Wilson: Pull,” University Art Museum, California State University Long Beach, Long Beach, CA; “Slow Motion Action Painting,” Marx & Zavattero, San Francisco, CA; and “Slow Food,” Curator’s Office, Washington, D. C.
Recent group exhibitions include "Do You Think it Needs a Cloud," Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; “20 Years Anniversary Exhibition,” Vielmetter Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA; “The Responsive Eye Revisited: Then, Now, and In-Between,” Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; “Michael Reafsnyder & Patrick Wilson”, Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; “Pivotal: Highlights from the Collection,” Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; “On the Road...

Israeli Contemporary Abstract Geometric Painted Pierced Sculpture Zigi Ben Haim
Located in Surfside, FL
Zigi Ben-Haim,
Metal sculpture
Hand signed and dated Zigi Ben-Haim, 1998
Untitled, patinated aluminum or steel,
Dimensions: 6"h x 2"w x 2"d
This listing is for 1. I have 2 similar ones available.
Zigi Ben-Haim (born 1945 in Baghdad, Iraq) is an Iraqi-American-Israeli painter, collage artist and sculptor who lives and works in New York City and Israel.
Ben-Haim unveiled his sculpture, Treasure the Green, in SoHo on Broadway. The project was sponsored by the SoHo Broadway Initiative and the New York Department of Transportation's Art Program. The sculpture is considered to be the first sculpture to receive permission to be installed on a bus bulb on Broadway. The sculpture was made to "emphasize the importance of nature in our lives," and stands as a reminder of "the importance of reconnecting with the pure nature of the green." The sculpture uses the symbol of the leaf, which has been a major icon of Ben-Haim's work for the past 30 years. It symbolizes nature and it is a metaphoric way of emphasizing nature and the surrounding environment. He is of the first generation of Israeli artists to develop large international followings like Yaacov Agam, Menashe Kadishman and Avigdor Arikha.
Ben-Haim has received numerous grants and awards, including from Pollock-Krasner Foundation, National Endowments for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Emily Harvey Foundation Venice, Muestra Int. de Obra Grafica (Spain), and the Ministry of Culture in Israel. His works are included and exhibited in numerous public and private collections around the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in N.Y.C., the Jewish Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Israel Museum, and the Tel-Aviv Museum.

Abstract Expressionist Enamel on Metal Color Field Painting Paul Jenkins Style
By Dom Mingolla
Located in Surfside, FL
Wall hanging, Framed 16 X 20. Enamel measures 16 X 12
Dominic Mingolla (1922 – 1999) Mingolla created paintings in many different materials and genres. Best known for his large abstract expressionist watercolor paintings similar in style to Paul Jenkins and for his Enamel work. His work bears affinities both to Lyrical Abstraction and to Tachisme artists such as Nicolas de Staël, Serge Poliakoff, Andre Lanskoy, Hans Hartung, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Gustave Singier, Alfred Manessier, Roger Bissiere, "Lyrical Abstraction arose in the 1960s and 70s, following the challenge of Minimalism and Conceptual art. Many artists began moving away from geometric, hard-edge, and minimal styles, toward more lyrical, sensuous, romantic abstractions worked in a loose gestural style. These "lyrical abstractionists" sought to expand the boundaries of abstract painting, and to revive and reinvigorate a painterly 'tradition' in American art. At the same time, these artists sought to reinstate the primacy of line and color as formal elements in works composed according to aesthetic principles – rather than as the visual representation of sociopolitical realities or philosophical theories." "Characterized by intuitive and loose paint handling, spontaneous expression, illusionist space, acrylic staining, process, occasional imagery, and other painterly techniques, the abstract works included in this exhibition sing with rich fluid color and quiet energy. Artists associated with Lyrical Abstraction include: Natvar Bhavsar, Lamar Briggs, Friedel Dzubas, Sam Francis, Ronnie Landfield, Pat Lipsky...

Spirit - Abstract Geometric Form, Hand Painted, Welded Steel Sculpture
By Chris Hill
Located in Chicago, IL
This dynamic table sized sculpture is created from sheets of steel, welded together in an abstract geometric pattern and then painted with an acrylic paint to enhance the surface. While the work adheres to a rigid, rational geometry, this sculptures suggest lyrical movement, apparent weightlessness and improvisation as the title suggests.

Large Modernist Steel Sculpture with Abstract Geometric Painting Richard Hall

Richard Hall (-1952)
Oil on steel sculptural painting
Depicting amorphous forms in vibrant colors and patterns.
With a painted steel base
Hand signed on base.
Height: 78 1/2 in x width: 19 1/4 in x depth: 19 1/4 in.
Very solid and heavy, possibly suited for outdoor use.
Richard Hall (British - American, 1952-) was born in 1952 in Bradford, Yorkshire, the industrial heart of northern England. He attended both the Sheffield College of Art and the Kingston-upon-Hull College of Art, receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting in 1976. After earning his
Master of Fine Arts from Sussex University, he left England for the Southwest of the USA. As a boy growing up in England, Hall spent many hours watching his grandfather create fine furniture. According to Hall,
The man was a master craftsman, employing traditional tools and working methods handed down through generations. He passed on to me to joy of creating something unique. I carry on these traditions in my own work.
As I learned to finish fine furniture with layer upon layer of polish and wax, so I now find myself working with layer upon layer of texture and color. Richard’s first love was realism art. His college education was frustrating, steeped in conceptual art rather than traditional practices, reflecting the trends of 1970s art colleges. After moving to the United States in 1978 he began exploring various mediums, including printmaking, sculpture in bronze, and stainless steel, mixed media, gold leaf and acrylic painting, finding himself primarily drawn to abstract painting. Hall has been painting all his life, creating works of art in a wide variety of styles. This reminds me of Gregg Robinson, George Snyder...

Large New York School Abstract Expressionist MIxed Media Oil Painting Collage
By Sidney Gross
Located in Surfside, FL
Sidney Gross (1921-1969) was an American modernist artist and painter. Like most young artists during the Depression, Sidney Gross was influenced by the social realism of the WPA, prominent at art schools like Cooper Union and the Arts Students League in New York city, His work also drew on the surrealist movement that was still relatively new. By the time he was twenty, he was painting distinctively urban surrealism, producing critically admired portraits, something he continued to do throughout his lifetime. At the League, he studied under Jon Corbino, Arnold Blanch, Morris Kantor, and George Picken. Other teachers at the school whose art he would have become familiar with include Will Barnet, George Grosz, Jean Charlot, Ernest Fiene, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Raphael Soyer, Harry Sternberg and William Zorach. The Federal Art Program was reorganized under WPA and its many artistic programs were winding down. Mark Rothko was among those dropped. In the meantime, around him the New York art scene was undergoing a revolution, of which he was surely aware. In May 1930, the Museum of Non-Objective Art opened, financed by and drawn from the collection of Simon Guggenheim, which included Arp, Kandinsky, Chagall, Moholy-Nagy, and the more traditional Vlaminck. Picasso's Guernica was exhibited at the Valentine Dudensing Gallery. Willem DeKooning was moved to paint a tribute to it. Adolph Gottlieb painted a series of Surrealist sea...
