Private Escape explores the idea of personal freedom hidden inside moments of humor, warmth, and apparent simplicity. At the center of the painting, an otter drifts effortlessly through a private Mediterranean pool, surrounded by sunlit plants, terracotta pots, cacti, and the quiet architecture of a secluded Moroccan courtyard. Beyond the terrace, the sea appears in the distance — open, calm, and unreachable in the same way as an imagined inner refuge. The scene feels playful and slightly absurd: the animal has entered a space that does not “belong” to it, yet behaves with complete ease, softness, and confidence. This subtle humor becomes part of the work’s emotional language. The painting reflects on the often invisible pressure imposed by society — expectations about productivity, behavior, appearance, and the constant need to justify rest or pleasure.
