About the Item
Full Circle, a digitally created artwork by artist Jane Kim. Four unique archival pigment UV prints on wood, Ed. 1 of 1. Professionally framed in solid black ash wood. Two pieces are 48 x 65.25 inch rectangles, while two are 48 x 55.25 inch with an interesting diagonal shape at the top. The total size of the quad is 48 x 257 inches when hung with a 5 inch space between the works of art.
Full Circle tells the story of environmental interconnections. Fire creates conditions conducive for spawning salmon, a food source for otters. Otters line their dens with oak leaves, host plants for California sister caterpillars that, as adult butterflies, feed on buckeye flowers and fermented buckeye fruit. California ground squirrels also eat buckeye fruit, just as bald eagles feed upon ground squirrels. The eagles line their nest with lichen, which also provide forage for black-tailed deer. Non-native European starlings eat nuisance insects off the hides of these deer in addition to flying insects like the owlet moth, whose caterpillars feed on whispering bells, which follow fire as early botanical colonizers.
The imagery is a journey through nature’s interconnections: Full Circle. No beginning and no end.
The design is inspired by tessellation: shapes that fit together seamlessly, without gaps. Tessellation can be traced as far back as 4000 BC and the style became popularized in the mid-20th century by the Dutch artist M.C. Escher, whose body of work is a choreography with math. Tessellations can be found in nature, such as the hexagonal cells of honeycombs. They provide the perfect vernacular to explore fluidity and connection, cause and effect, and the beautiful closed loop system of nature—concepts we often lose sight of in pursuit of our own desires. Artist signed and dated verso. Proudly presented by Andra Norris Gallery, Burlingame, CA.

Soft yellow and creamy white low fired glazed ceramic on wood sculptural wall work of art from Pop Art pioneer Jane B. Grimm, whose artistic career began in the 1960’s, when her free-form sculptural jewelry exploded onto the fashion scene in NYC. Her designs spoke to a new generation well into the 1970's, when they were regularly featured in, and graced the covers of, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazines.
In the 1980's, Grimm shifted her focus to clay while earning her MFA from the California College of...
