in the manner of Jose Bedia. this is piece is not signed so we are selling it as in the manner of and have priced it accordingly. it is painted/printed on thin newspaper which is mounted to a heavier paper. it is not framed. The newspaper is in Spanish but i cannot tell what paper it is from. José Braulio Bedia Valdés (born January 13, 1959, in Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban painter. Bedia studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" and then finished his art studies at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. Large vertical chalk on paper drawing of blue, red, grey and black birds chalk on four vintage collaged music sheets Artwork measures 78 x 25 inches, 83.5 x 30 inches framed, deckle edge paper is floated in natural wood moulding with glass. This contemporary graphic chalk drawing on collaged vintage music sheets was made by Louise Laplante in 2016. The delicate yet vivid silhouettes of birds are stenciled onto the vintage music sheets with red, blue, navy, and black chalk. The birds extend vertically up the paper, as if they were singing in a flock. In some segments the stenciled birds are delicately brushed over with a thin wisp of chalk. The work is complimented with a modern natural wood frame. Whimsical composition, gorgeous neutral palette, and uplifting imagery! About the artist: Mixed media artist, Louise Laplante, will exhibit new drawings on collaged pages of of vintage paper. Interested in blending the old world with the new, Laplante combines her original images with ephemera of the past, enticing a conversation about it’s “relevancy to the present.” Her compositions begin with vintage book pages, personal handwritten letters, sheet music, or instruction from old guides on etiquette or science. While the text itself is weighted with reference to a particular subject, the visual of the typed or handwritten words and printed illustrations establish a unique pattern. These layered backgrounds are superimposed with opaque charcoal drawings that are inspired by the themes read between the lines. Most recently, the artist has opted for larger scale work, combining multiple sheets of vintage paper to expand her unique motifs. In the six and a half foot tall work, “Chorus”, a flock of multi-colored birds are stenciled on collaged sheets of handwritten music. They gravitate in a gloriously dynamic upward movement, illustrating their song resonating in harmonious unison. Other work is decorated with groupings of blue whales, billowy clouds, or gentlemen’s hats, while some selections are riddled with personal references that are blurred with whitewash. Laplante exhibits across the Northeast and has shown with Carrie Haddad for more than ten years.
