About the Item
handwoven
Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist.
Exhibited in the Personale in the Museum Angerlehner 2020
The contemplative element of a tapestry arises from the working process,
in which thread after thread is strung together on the loom until a sketch roughly sketched on paper is transferred into that semi-sculptural immortality that is unique to this medium. We are witnessing the disappearance of this technique, which is no longer compatible with a capitalist way of thinking and which presupposes the self-exploitation of the artist as an integral component.
In her tapestries, Jutta Pointner has found a pictorial language that is orientated towards nature but strongly abstract, which attempts to resurrect archaic forms. The almost squarely depicted flowers show an exciting form of movement, which is created both by the structure of the coloured areas and by their exciting composition. The structure of the coloured areas and their tense composition, as well as a very friendly, life-affirming colour scheme for the artists.

- LIGHT\TRACE No. 1Located in Wien, 9In the delicate light installation LIGHT\TRACE No. 1, fibre optics are embedded in white, handmade hand-made paper and gently trace their tracks over the entire surface. The transparent, fine fibre optics subtly emit their light and the viewer's gaze is lost in the superimposed fibre optics, which both diffuse their light and draw it very clearly. This counterplay creates optical depth and ever new...Category

- "Heads Will Roll" Textile Fiber Art, Discarded Clothing, FigurativeLocated in New York, NY"Heads Will Roll" Textile Fiber Art, Discarded Clothing This piece is unique, signed on recto and verso, and includes a certificate of authenticity Linda Friedman Schmidt is a German-born American artist known for her emotional narrative portraits created from discarded clothing. She was born stateless in a displaced persons camp, the first child of Holocaust survivors who discouraged her interest in art. Her artwork depicts a reality informed by social, political, and feminist issues as well as a traumatic family history. Through a process of unmaking and remaking, she explores the potential of art to mend, transform, and heal the self and society. Her earlier artworks continue to endure today as they address inequality, violence against women, and the general sense of unease and vulnerability that has been heightened by the pandemic. Her artwork has been exhibited extensively in the USA in group shows at venues such as the American Folk Art Museum, Allentown Art Museum, Montclair Art Museum, Morris Museum, and many others. It has been selected for exhibition by prestigious curators such as Judy Chicago, Faith Ringgold, and renowned art critic Donald Kuspit. Her work has been shown internationally in Japan...Category
