Artist Comments
The bison and the beetle have a prehistoric elegance about them that I thought would compliment each other perfectly. Symbolically, both represent life and mortality, which has been on my mind lately. To Native Americans, bison are symbolic of sacred life and abundance. And in ancient greek mythology the beetle became revered as a symbol of rebirth and immortality -- its daily journey across the sky became an allegory of human life. The Wallpaper collection is a juxtaposition of masculine meets feminine. I wanted to create a unique series that stands apart from traditional nature paintings, where the wild and somewhat prehistoric aspects of my animals featured contrast against their delicate backdrops. In addition to this, many of my paintings are created with a little bit of underlying symbolism usually sparked from a world event or life moment that I am experiencing. I concentrate on this theme as a therapeutic mantra throughout the creation of the painting. For each painting, different techniques and layers of design are implemented when creating the wall paper effect. To keep the patterns consistent I create a stencil to outline the shapes of my hummingbirds, bugs and fish, and then I hand paint each shape individually. In the areas where I wanted a little more chaos, I would forgo the stencil and eyeball each design. My animals are always painted first, and then I layout the design around them.

Artist Onelio Marrero paints an emerald pool abundant with blooming water lilies. "I am fascinated by the three-fold nature of looking at the water's surface," says Onelio. He displays depth implied in the reflection of the sky, ripples, plants floating, and finally, the telltale signs of things just below the surface. Part of Onelio's ongoing series of paintings exploring bodies of water.

Artist Onelio Marrero paints impressionist city scenes of everyday life. He captures the romanticism of New York City, from the picturesque fountains in Central Park to a glistening city street on a rainy afternoon. He creates a sense of nostalgia and intimacy with his work, offering the feeling that you have visited this particular scene before. “Each play of light, each texture, and each movement of a figure can have a captivating effect on me,” says Onelio. He studied at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art where he mastered discerning color and values, giving his work a more spontaneous appearance. Peter Shire (American, b. 1947) Angel, 1998 painted aluminum abstract sculpture with moveable parts 19 x 13 x 10 inches (approximately) This is not hand signed. It is handmade and there is no signature KInetic sculpture. the limbs all articulate and move. This appears to be designed to hang as a mobile sculpture. I assume if all the bolts are tightened it can also stand. Peter Shire (born 1947) is a Los Angeles, California artist. Shire was born in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles, where he currently lives and works. His sculpture, furniture, painting, prints and ceramics have been exhibited in the United States, Italy, France, Japan and Poland; Shire has been associated with the Memphis Group of designers, has worked on the Design Team for the XXIII Olympiad with the American Institute of Architects, and has designed public sculptures suitable for outdoors in Los Angeles and other California cities. Shire has been honored by awards for his contribution to the cultural life of the City of Los Angeles. He is an influential LA ceramicist along with and influenced by Ken Price and ceramic master Peter Voulkos. Of a similar mod vibe to Charlie Hewitt and Brad Howe. The Memphis Milano Group was an Italian design and architecture group founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1982 that designed Post modern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and welded, painted, metal objects from 1981 to 1988. The Memphis group's work often incorporated plastic laminate and was characterized by ephemeral design featuring colorful and abstract decoration as well as asymmetrical shapes, sometimes arbitrarily alluding to exotic or earlier styles. They drew inspiration from such movements as Art Deco and Pop Art, including styles such as the 1950s Kitsch and futuristic themes. Other members included Martine Bedin Michael Graves, Javier Mariscal, Nathalie du Pasquier, Matteo Thun and Marco Zanuso. He was included in the Sullivan Goss show L.A. in S.B. of Postwar and Contemporary California artists including Emerson Woelffer, Ynez Johnston, Peter Krasnow, Edgar Ewing. Their styles ran the gamut from Post Cubist Abstraction to Abstract Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism. About the Artist
Teresa Smith captures the soul of the west coast landscape in her contemplative oil paintings. Teresa gathers impressions of the land around her remote island home on horseback rides accompanied by her Irish wolfhound. Her works capture the light coming through the trees, a richness of color, and the interconnectedness of nature. Her subjects emerge through lyrical brushwork, sometimes with light streaming as if through a stained glass window. Her major influences are Georgia O’Keeffe, Emily Carr, and the Canadian Group of Seven, the latter of whom pioneered a distinctive style defined by a direct connection with nature. In addition to painting, Teresa is a master gardener, and she grows food year-round in her garden and volunteers in the community to educate and diagnose plant problems. She works from her studio on the top floor of a barn overlooking the pond and trees, where deer walk by and ducks swim. According to Teresa, "much of today’s art is based on concept. That is, the artist has an idea, then uses their art to educate and inform. I do contemplative painting, which is different. For me, it is allowing the painting to unfold in a contemplative or meditative way."
