About the Item
This piece is made by casting Hydrocal FGR95 (a very hard plaster) on top of an oil clay pattern. Once cured, the oil clay is removed, then paint and gold leaf are applied to the surface. The piece is hung with an aluminum z clip. A foam core pattern will be included to aid with placement and install.
This multi-colored wall mounted sculpture depicts imagined land masses. The piece has an interesting intricate maze like pattern and texture that gives a wonderful visual experience both from a distance and up close. I personally like the color choices with this piece and the gold adornment along the edge.
Ben Watkins was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1977. He holds a BFA from Murray State University and a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, both degrees in furniture design. He current lives and works in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He has been exhibited nationally and is in both public and private collections.
