About the Item

Jolomo (John Lowrie Morrison 1941) brings contemporary expressionism to this rural western Scottish scene in Mull, in brilliant color and a unique style. Ever popular artist in Scotland, he brings the misty darker hues of traditional Scotland into vivid color, focusing on the red roofs, white crofts, North Sea deep blue skies and moments of bright light on golden fields. As Scottish as it gets, Jolomo paints the less traveled western isles and villages of Scotland.. This work of a Scottish house on the island of Mull was imported to the US from Scotland, and was previously in a private Scottish collection. Ask about another we have in inventory now, of the isle of Harris, known for Harris tweed. Often described as misty, cloudy and gray, Jolomo brings fire and light to the old white crofts and seaside views. The red-roofed white houses dotting the Scottish countryside suddenly take center stage, set in deep blue skies and golden orange grasses. In this work Jolomo takes a humble house on Breadalbane Road, Isle of Mull, transforming the image to near abstraction. In fact, the skies of Scotland can be deep blue in the evening and the setting sun at a last angle can cast golden light on the hillsides. Jolomo takes these moments of light, humble homes and stunning scenery to create these vibrant images. After all, Scotland is also the land of the Northern Lights. Framed in likely original wide silver frame, under glass. Many of Jolomo’s works are square in shape, like this one, and expanded in wide contemporary silver or gold frames. Priced in US dollars that may appear higher than price listings in British pounds, this is a very competitive price for Jolomo’s work. Imported from the UK to USA. Jolomo is a beloved artist in Scotland, known for philanthropy and for bringing life to often overlooked subjects. His work has consistently retained popularity over many years.
