About the Item

Renelio Marin Tree Series 8, 2018 40 x 25 in Acrylic Painting Renelio Marin is a visual artist with a diverse range of influences and styles and the co-owner of AMRM Gallery. Born in Cuba, he received his graduate degree from the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in Havana in 1993. After moving to the United States, Renelio received a B.A. in Studio Art from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 2009 and later an M.A. in Media, Culture, and Communication from New York University in 2011. Renelio's works show a revolution of a shift in artistic emphasis from the political realm to the abstract domain. In his paintings, he utilizes colorful brushstrokes to create a layered effect, evoking a sense of subconscious language emerging from textural combinations. This layered effect is a result of his subconscious approach to generating his own artistic language, utilizing textures and patterns to convey emotion and meaning. His work exudes a bold and wild atmosphere, capturing the essence of his unconventional approach to art-making and showcasing his unique artistic vision.

Broken Tree #9 a-f
By Javier Peláez
Located in Santa Monica, CA
In Javier Peláez ‘s recent work, executed in Mexico City for this year’s exhibition project with William Turner Gallery, there are new formal and discursive premises in the composition of the images and also lines of continuity with respect to his past explorations. Specifically, the artist continues to develop the optical complexity of abstract planimetric architectures; retains the connection with certain Japanese visual elements; supports the idea of the diagram or structure of floating or weightless forms; and continues to resort to the industrial or high-tech chromatic scenes that incorporate fluorescence into sober color repertoires. As for the new premises visible, the first thing that is noticed is an emphasis on the tension between the secant geometrical planes and the image of the trunk of the tree. The atmosphere in most of these new paintings is that of a world where the organic is placed in an artificial and strident scenery (somewhat influenced by “vapor wave...
