About the Item
'Wicked Witch of the East' is a masterfully painted oil on panel, that features a long haired, young and nude woman with a scar down her stomach. I bird atop her head gazes down at an egg in her hand. The painting itself is 10 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches. Condition excellent. Artist signed, titled, dated Verso. Painted by Okada in 2014. Proudly presented by Andra Norris Gallery in Burlingame, CA.
Chikako Okada’s autobiographical oil paintings, bridge traditional realism with magical realism and surrealism. She is inspired by European Masters, Frida Khalo, and the American Surrealists. Okada uniquely addresses questions of the human condition through her meticulously detailed, and patterned paintings. They are mesmerizing, rich in symbolism, and reference power, vulnerability, sadness, longing, and desire. The images often feature young women, girls, and boys that are mysteriously posed, leaving their circumstances to the viewer's interpretation.
