About the Item

This painting is in excellent condition and has only been shown in a gallery. Marcel Demagny was born in 1949 in Nancy, France. He graduated from the Nancy School of Architecture in 1974, formerly known as the National School of Fine Arts. After receiving his diploma, Demagny became chief architect of Nancy. As he explains, “I have always been fond of musical analogies and would say that as an architect I am a conductor, and as a painter, I am a soloist.” It was during his years in school that he explored an interest in painting. He worked with graphic designers, painters and sculptors while developing his aesthetic. Color and matter have always played a major role in Demagny’s style. He sharp angles and the absence of hue manifest in the cut edges of flowers and landscapes with their monochromatic background. Demagny allows his emotions to guide him along the canvas, stating, “I have reached my current style, which is now well established, working by layering colors with the palette knife and spatula. This is the culmination of 37 years of passion and practice.” Presently he devotes more time to painting, as architecture cannot express his creativity any longer. His favorite subjects include landscapes, floral arrangements, music and seascapes. He loves these subjects but chooses to not confine himself to one. The color and style of Demagny’s paintings are truly an expression of himself.

Sailing to the Sun, Reflection in the Water, Oil , Abstract Landscape, Nature
Located in Houston, TX
Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame. On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms. Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it. Artist Statement: " I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes. The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it".
