"In the late afternoon, just after the golden hour, the backlights are on as well as all the lights in my friend's house," explains artist Mitchell Freifeld. "They have even turned on the light in their excellent example of a classic mid-century kidney-shaped swimming pool, so that everything glows all shades of blue on this midsummer's eve."

About the Artist
Mitchell Freifeld cannot remember a time when he did not draw and paint. He won his first juried show at age 10 and decided that someday, he'd be a 'real painter.' He settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early '70s and got involved in the burgeoning tech industry. From there, he moved to Portland upon accepting an information technology position. This is a painting from my modernist pool series of paintings. In this particular painting I loved the shape of the kidney shaped pool and I placed the olive trees surrounding the architectural modern home in a group of three. Painting and landscaping the garden with cacti and hedges give the painting its unique colourful landscape. Contrasting the straight lines of the architecture to the soft lines of the plants and fauna give this painting an interesting focus. Karen Lynn is available at Wychwood Art.
