Xie Kitchin as Dane - Vintage b/w Photograph by Lewis Carroll - 1873

By Lewis Carroll

Located in Roma, IT

Xie Kitchin as Dane is an original vintage photograph realized in 1873 by Lewis Carroll (Daresbury, January 27, 1832 - Guildford, January 14, 1898). Original albumen print on postcard; dimensions: 14 x 10 cm. N° 2132 "The Dane manuscript" was written by the author in pencil on the back. Provenance: Jeffrey Stern Bookseller York UK. Certificate of Athenticity: provided by the Original Gallery. Framed in a coeval frame. Mint conditions. Lewis Carroll (Daresbury, January 27, 1832 - Guildford, January 14, 1898) in 1873. This work depicts the figure of Xie (Alexandra) Kitchin as "Dane", a standing children with an elegant dress and headgear. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898), better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, was an English writer of children's fiction, notably Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass. He was noted for his facility with word play, logic, and fantasy. The poems "Jabberwocky" and The Hunting of the Snark are classified in the genre of literary nonsense. He was also a mathematician, photographer, inventor, and Anglican deacon. Carroll came from a family of high-church Anglicans, and developed a long relationship with Christ Church, Oxford, where he lived for most of his life as a scholar and teacher. Alice Liddell, daughter of the Dean of Christ Church, Henry Liddell, is widely identified as the original for Alice in Wonderland, though Carroll always denied this. Scholars are divided about whether his relationship with children included an erotic component. In 1982, a memorial stone...

The photograph is framed to the line and crop indicated by the photographer on the print, behind museum quality UV non-reflective glass. (A Fresson print is a type of photographic printing, created in 1899, that has been passed down in the family for four generations. Still to this day, the Fresson family keeps some elements of the process a secret but make sure it stays alive. Located in the outskirts of Paris, their workshop is the only one in the world to produce such prints.) Albin-Guillot studied drawing and painting before becoming interested in photography. In 1925, she went on to have the first one-person exhibition at the Paris Autumn Salon. She also served as president of the French Societe des Artistes Photographes and in June 1928, was included in the first independent Salon of Photography in Paris. Published in 1932, she took a series of male nudes taken for Henry de Motherlant’s La Deesse Cypris. "EXAMINATION" Assemblage of found photos and polaroid lift on panel

By Shawn Theodore

Located in Philadelphia, PA

"EXAMINATION" is an original piece by Shawn Theodore made from found/family photos, polaroid lift, acrylic on wood panel. Theodore delves into the specific experiences of African American families, capturing a longing for lost photographs, missing heirlooms, and vanished archives. Using a blend of traditional portraiture, found photographs, paint, paper, pencils, and digital manipulation, Theodore creates archetypes representing hypothetical family members, spiritual guardians, and ancestors. These boldly crafted archetypes inhabit an imagined macro-family album, offering a unique perspective on portraiture, connection, and community. Theodore's work aims to deepen spiritual connections and encourage personal introspection. This pieces measures 16.75"h x 16.75"w framed and comes with a gallery-issued Certificate of Authenticity. Shawn Theodore (b. 1970) was born in Germany to American parents from Philadelphia, and currently lives and works in Philadelphia. Theodore was awarded the prestigious PDN’s 30 New & Emerging Photographers to Watch (2019), the Getty Images / ARRAY ‘Where We Stand’ grant, and a grant from the Knight Foundation for ‘A Dream Deferred’. Theodore was a two-time nominee for the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and a nominee for the Magnum Foundation Fund. He is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of the Arts, a trustee of The Print Center, a trustee of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and a former trustee of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. Theodore was announced as a two-time nominee of The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship and a nominee of the Magnum Foundation Fund in 2018. Dancing Flowers - underwater nude photograph - print on aluminum 48" x 36"

By Alex Sher

Located in Beverly Hills, CA

This ethereal underwater photograph captures a topless female figure draped in flowing turquoise tulle, suspended against a dramatic black backdrop. Vibrant magenta flowers float at the water's surface, creating striking color contrasts with the aquamarine tones. Sher's composition transforms the underwater environment into a stage for graceful movement, where fabric becomes liquid poetry. The work continues the tradition of underwater photography as contemporary fine art, exploring themes of weightlessness and transformation. The interplay between human form, textile, and botanical elements creates a dreamlike narrative that bridges dance, fashion, and aquatic artistry. Original digital print on aluminum plate signed by the artist. Limited edition of 12. Print #2 The artwork is furnished with certificate of authenticity, signed by artist with artist's name, edition number, edition limit, and other details. "Feels Good" Polar Bear Photograph - Signed and Numbered Limited Edition

By Thomas Mangelsen

Located in Soquel, CA

Signed and numbered limited edition photograph of a polar bear by Thomas Mangelsen (American, b. 1945). Signed "Thomas Mangelsen" in the lower right corner and numbered "794/950" in the lower left corner. This particular image is no longer produced. Presented in a double mat of light grey and tan, in a wood frame. Image size: approx. 21"H x 31"W Renowned American nature and wildlife photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen (American, b. 1945) has traveled throughout the natural world for over 40 years observing and photographing the Earth’s last great wild places. A Nebraska native, Mangelsen’s love of nature, his life outdoors and business success were heavily influenced by his father. An avid sportsman, Harold Mangelsen took his sons to favorite blinds along the Platte River in Nebraska to observe the great flocks of ducks, geese and cranes that migrate through the valley. From these adventures, Mangelsen learned important lessons for photographing in the field, most notably patience and understanding animal behavior. In 1965, Mangelsen began studying business at the University of Nebraska. In 1967, Tom transferred to Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where he changed his major and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Tom continued postgraduate study in zoology and wildlife biology at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. In 1970 Mangelsen moved to Nederland, Colorado. He spent two years living in the Rocky Mountains in an old mining shack without electricity or running water with his English setter, black lab and raccoon. Tom continued to work on his photography and studied arctic alpine ecology at the University of Colorado’s Mountain Research Station near Nederland. There he met Bert Kempers, a CU film producer, who later hired Tom as cinematographer and film editor for his company Westwind Productions, making educational and nature documentaries. Tom longed...
