"Lovers" - Limited Edition Fine Art Print

This entire series was inspired by a piece of graffiti by the street artist Banksy in the UK. Nick Stern - who ironically has been called the Banksy of Los Angeles and goes by the street name "Plastic Jesus" -decided to set himself the challenge to recreate the original Banksy graffiti with as much accuracy as possible, including the texture of the walls where the stencils were on and the windows on the buildings here in Los Angeles. Most were recreated “in situation”, without any photo shop. Only two works “The Maid” and “The Lovers” required minimal photoshop. Nick is English as is Banksy but based in Los Angeles so finding brick walls or a sash window was fun to find for the shoots.
All photographs are printed to order and signed, with a certificate of authenticity signed by Wallspace. They are printed on 20”x16”paper with a border included - be aware that images may not all be exactly the same size as the imagery has different layouts. The paper size will be framed to the same size. The paper is a heavy weight fine art paper Entrada.

David Saxe - “Photography has always been the simple act of looking and being inspired to strip the unnecessary elements from the scene and frame the image down in a way to discover what is not apparent on the surface. My photographs are as much about me as what I am seeing:
In Southern California, 2010 is a perfect example of this process of seeing. When I first noticed this scene, it was a simple mural of a whale on a wall. After looking at it for a while I realized that by eliminating the sky and foreground from the image the whale now had an undulating rhythm and movement.
In another image Restaurant Hostess, Palm Beach, FL 2012, I would go to this restaurant every week and sit in the bar behind the reception area. One day, I turned around and saw the back of a woman. Through this process of deductive framing, the image became one of dark shadows rhythmically trickling down her back interwoven with the tattoo of the lizard.
David Saxe was born in Montreal, Québec, Canada in 1943 and studied fine art at l’ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal. Steve Schlackman is a lawyer by profession and a photographer by choice. Fascinated by the magical world of photography since his youth, he honed this skill over time, meticulously pouring over all things photographic, technical and creative alike, with unstoppable enthusiasm. Steve’s passion for taking photographs was ignited early on, during a study-abroad trip to Paris, where he immersed himself in all things art historical. Diligence, a strong trait Schlackman is known for, paid off, and after daily meanderings at the Louvre, a great love for art emerged along with hundreds of photographs. These pictures proved to be early tributes to the urban landscape, and although they didn’t amount to full-on series, a seed was planted.
The omnipresent tension between the poor neighborhoods of the Cuban capital, as a result of political dictatorship, and the rich Afro-Cuban cultural roots of their inhabitants, whose wealth is represented by their music and feelings, is physically visible in Steve’s use of high contrast, a metaphoric touch on the subject of the light and darkness of the Afro-Cuban heritage. Although intentionally apolitical, the pictures speak volumes about the Cuban status quo and, appropriately, the eternal joy of living despite socio-political hardship.
