Marie-Chantal Claire, Crown Princess of Greece, Princess of Denmark, strikes an extravagant pose above her sister Pia (in yellow). They are lounging in the pool of the Hotel Belair, Cap Ferrat, July 1991. Over the course of a career lasting half a century, Slim Aarons (1916-2006) portrayed high society, aristocracy, authors, artists, business icons, the celebrated and their milieu. In doing so, he captured a golden age of wealth, privilege, beauty and leisure that occurred alongside—but quite separate from—the cultural and political backdrop of the second half of the Twentieth Century. The Slim Aarons Estate has released the limited Estate edition as a Lambda print, which is a modern c-type prints. They have chosen Lambda prints for their sharpness, clarity, colour saturation and quality, compared to archival inkjet prints. Lambda printing gives true continuous tone. 60 x 90 inches ed. of 10 $11,000 signed and numbered on label, verso Reinhard Görner, with his large format photographs orchestrates the monumentality of rooms. An active architecture photographer since 1985, is a master of perspectives and precise spatial compositions, and he thus considers classical sculpture, in all of its possible facets, a special challenge. "Görner’s photographs sometimes open the doors to another world and take the viewer with them on a journey through time. Here the palace is no longer a museum but both royal residence and a site steeped in history. The viewer does not have to share the halls with the masses of visitors; instead the images offer him exclusive impressions of the Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors) and the Galerie des Batailles (Hall of Battles) as even the king of France was probably never granted. The halls are empty of people, yet they seem to be able to unfurl their individual characters of their own accord. These places practically breathe history, and this aspect is also part of the essence captured in the photographs. King Wilhelm of Prussia was named German Emperor Wilhelm...

August 1973: A motor boat arrives at a jetty in Porto Ercole, Italy, as figures on the boat and dock enjoy a moment of understated elegance. Shot from above, this midcentury photograph captured by society photographer Slim Aarons in 1973 features highlights the interplay of sun, sea, and polished deck—a setting that seamlessly fuses casual glamour with everyday leisure. The Mediterranean waters shimmer with shifting blues, while the boat’s white surface offers a crisp focal point. True to Aarons’s approach, the composition exudes spontaneity yet feels carefully poised, revealing an intimate slice of jet-set culture along Italy’s Tuscan coast. Even decades later, this work showcases Aarons’s enduring style: a fine balance of serene setting, refined subjects, and a vivid sense of place that continues to enthrall viewers with its timeless warmth and charm.
