Antique Foo Dogs

Several stylized Chinese lions, or Foo Dogs, are scattered throughout the composition, traditionally symbolizing protection and prosperity.

Each oil lamp rests on four legs toppd by a Foo dog. Foo Dogs or Chinese guardian lions are a common representation of the lion in imperial China.

The tea caddy is raised on four lacquered and gilt carved imperial guardian lions, lion dogs or foo dogs also known as Shishi.
