The particular Tsuba features a imprinted/hammered and inlayed (gold or copper) leaf or floral design and a gorgeous patina that is acquired from age and handling/use It is quite an appealing work. The piece is likely from the early to mid Edo Period (1603-1868) but perhaps older (Muromachi Period, 1333-1568). The Tsuba has a nice feel and wonderful aged texture to it.
