- What does a cow skull symbolize?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022What a cow skull represents is largely a matter of personal interpretation. Some people see it as a symbol of cowboys or the Old West, while others think of it as a reminder that every living thing eventually dies. Shop a variety of cow skull decorative objects and art on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 8, 2024Alexander McQueen used skulls as a symbol to bring his interest in mortality and the fragility of life to his work. The legendary British fashion designer used skulls (and bones) throughout his designs, including in his scarves, shoes, shirts and other items, starting with his 1992 graduate collection, which focused on Jack the Ripper and his victims.
The skull, of course, is a memento mori, a reminder of death. McQueen frequently juxtaposed the glamour of the catwalk with intimations of our coming doom. McQueen's skull scarf appeared in his Spring 2003 collection. Inspired by the 1986 Roland Joffé film 'The Mission,' the collection featured pirate looks and a shipwreck theme. The scarf soon became widely coveted among celebrities and tastemakers, and it was reproduced by counterfeiters worldwide. The designer's handbags are equally edgy and chic, and his skull-clasp Four-Ring Clutch and other clutches featuring skull motifs have become iconic McQueen accessories.
Find vintage Alexander McQueen bags, dresses, jackets and other items for sale on 1stDibs. - 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022You can wear an Alexander McQueen skull scarf a variety of ways. The bold print makes it ideal for pairing with solid-colored tops and dresses, but you can also mix it with prints in a small or micro scale. Fold it into a triangle or a rectangle and play with different ways of draping and tying it. You'll find a selection of Alexander McQueen scarves on 1stDibs.
