Mary Fedden is viewed as a highly important figure to British 20th-century art history. She is one of Britain’s best loved and most collectible artists. Her paintings can be found in many private art collections including HM The Queen for Windsor Castle, Prince Hassan of Jordan, the Tate Gallery, Bristol City Art Gallery and The Royal Academy. This beautiful example of Fedden’s work highlights the rustic charm and simplicity that Fedden is so brilliant at conveying. With only a few elements to her composition and with a limited colour palette she manages to create a bold and intriguing image that stands out in its own right. Mary Fedden studied at the Slade from 1932 – 1936. She returned to Bristol where she painted and taught until World War II. After the war was over Fedden developed her own style, reminiscent of Matisse and Braque. In 1951 Mary Fedden married Julian Trevelyan.
