Michael Thonet (1796-1871) was the German-Austrian inventor of the process of bentwood production, recognized by flowing forms and the resulting lightweight product.

By 1870, Thonet furniture had undoubtedly reached the stage at which the technical development of the bentwood process matched a formal design that remains valid to this day.

This example dates from the 1980s, produced by Thonet. The frame is in chrome-plated tubular steel, with a curved wooden frame and armrests made of solid beech wood.

The simplicity and elegance, together with the beautiful wood is what makes this Art Nouveau stand a real furniture design masterpiece.
