This 18th-century First Period Worcester Porcelain sugar box was hand painted featuring beautiful swags painted with green leaves, purple berries, and two-tone blue and yellow apples. Each swag is tied with a purple ribbon in an elegant bow. Green leaves and two-tone plums hang from each ribbon. The cover finial is crafted as a budding rose painted in gorgeous pinkish purple and yellow with two green leaves. The sugar box's border and cover are both adorned with a band of underglaze blue and a chain of golden ribbons and are gently lobed, which adds visual excitement as light plays over the curved surfaces. Made in England circa 1775, this sugar box is a gem! Dimensions: 5" tall x 4.5" diameter Condition: Excellent Marks: On the underside is the Worcester First Period crescent in underglaze blue (see last image). This is a First Period Worcester teacup and saucer painted in the fabulous Jabberwocky pattern. It is painted in the Kakiemon style. The cup and saucer both have striking turquoise rococo borders with gilt and iron red diapered panels. Both have a fluted form. The fluting adds visual interest as light plays across the curved surfaces. The cup has a scrolled handle (see images). The pattern depicts a long-tailed dragon-type bird flying by an over-glaze blue enamel branch, surrounded by rich foliage, all within the turquoise border and gilt-lined rims. This First Period Worcester Porcelain trio set consists of a teacup, coffee cup, and saucer finely hand painted in the “Spotted Fruit” pattern circa 1770. Painted by James Giles, the decoration features fruit and several flying insects within a gilt-edged cartouche framed by an apple-green ground. The spotted fruit is quince. It is bunched together with red cherries, blackcurrants, plums, and green leaves. Both the teacup and coffee cup show three insects flying near the fruit (see images). The decoration has the same quatrefoil shape and apple-green ground as the “Marchioness of Huntley” Worcester pattern. Dimensions: Saucer diameter 5.15″, Teacup 1.75″ tall x 3.25″ diameter, coffee cup 2.75″ tall 2.25″ diameter Condition: Excellent, with two insignificant spots under the original glaze on the top edge of the teacup (see images). Marks: Underglaze Worcester mock Meissen blue mark, with “6” above a set of crossed swords. This mark was in use at Worcester from 1760 to 1770. First Period Worcester Porcelain Phoenix Pattern Sauce Tureens, Covers & Stands, Circa 1770 The First Period Worcester Porcelain Japan pattern colored pair of sauce tureens, covers stands are painted in Kakiemon-style colors with two phoenix type birds, one flying above with wings outstretched amongst prunus and chrysanthemum sprays with a wheatsheaf motif in the foreground. The border with a rim of alternating designs, one in gold and one in rouge de fer red. The rim of the underdishes and the covers with a pie-crust edge. The handles in the form of twigs with flower terminals and green leaves. Dimensions: Overall: 8 1/4 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches deep x 5 1/4 inches high; Tureens: 4 3/4 inches high x 7 inches wide; (Overall: 20.96cm wide x 16.51cm deep x 13.34cm) Condition: the condition is good with expected very minor losses to the edge of some flowers. The First Period Worcester porcelain teacup and saucer has a reeded French shape and is richly decorated with the Holly Berry pattern- a variation of the Hop Trellis pattern. Panels of purple plants alternate with berried foliage between borders of lilac diaper and gold herringbone and a lower border of white pearls on a bright turquoise ground. There are gilt dentil rims and the inside of the cup has flowers and berried sprigs below a gold band.
