Albert Christ-Janer was born on June 13, 1910, in Appleton, Minnesota. He was a son of William Henry and Bertha (Beckman) Christ-Janer, married to Virginia Morgan Carpenteron May 28, 1941. Christ-Janer studied at St. Olaf College, BA in 1931, the Art Institute of Chicago from 1931–32 and Yale Divinity School from 1932–34, Yale University, MFA in 1935, Harvard Art Museum for additional studies from 1939–40. He also served for the U.S. Army from 1941–42. Christ-Janer died on December 12, 1973, in a car crash near Como, Italy.
