Like her sister, Eleanor Eliza Manly, Alice Elfrida Manly attended the Royal Female School of Art, Queen Square, 1862–63, before going on to further her studies at the South Kensington School where she taught as an assistant. She exhibited extensively for almost 40 years between 1880–1917. She exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists; the Dudley Gallery and New Dudley Gallery; the Walker Gallery, Liverpool; the Manchester City Gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts; the Royal Society of British Artists; the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour; the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Society of Women Artists.
