Maison Giroux was founded by Francois-Simon-Alphonse Giroux in 1799 at 7 rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré, Paris. The store, specializing in small luxury goods and curiosities, expanded rapidly in the first half of the 19th century,

Louis XV Style Kingwood Bureau de Dame by Alphonse Giroux et Cie
By Alphonse Giroux et Cie
Located in Montreal, QC
This parquetry desk has the attributes one would expect when bearing the name to one of Paris leading retailers of objet deluxe. It is bombe...gently swelling and raised on cabriole legs. It is applied with oval porcelain panels which we have not dismounted but are to Sevres standard. It extensively mounted with bronze chutes sabots and moldings of various sorts. Including a bronze pierced plaque with the monogram of the owner. It is in a small way, highly evocative of 19th century Paris at its best.
This company flourished between the consulate and 1867 when it closed. It enjoyed Royal patronage and was certainly a leading supplier of luxury goods of the highest quality.
Maison Giroux, the famous curiosity and luxury goods shop, was situated at No. 7 rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré and in business from the time of the Consulate until the end of the Second Empire. The business was founded in 1799 by Francis Simon Alphonse Giroux, cabinetmaker and official restorer of Notre Dame. “Maison Alphonse Giroux” also known as “Giroux & Cie” specialized in producing ornate objects d’art and technically sophisticated furniture. Patronized by various members of the French Royal Family, including Louis XVIII, Charles X, Henri...

Second Empire Ormolu and Ebony Jewelry Cabinet by Giroux
By Alphonse Giroux et Cie
Located in New Orleans, LA
This exceptional and remarkably large jewelry cabinet by celebrated Parisian ébéniste Alphonse Giroux was created during the height of the Second Empire when the style of Napoleon III reached its highest level of expression and elegance. The cabinet’s surfaces are superbly finished with checkerboard parquetry in ebony, while the interior is crafted from the finest, most lustrous satinwood. No detail has been overlooked in the crafting of this remarkable piece; even the hinges are signed and engraved. This magnificent cabinet would have been crafted to store the fine jewelry of a lady of incredible wealth and refinement.
The rectangular hinged top of the cabinet is adorned with pierced ormolu arabesque mounts, while the sides of the cabinet are similarly adorned, each with an ormolu handle. The front of the cabinet features two doors that open to reveal an opulent red velvet interior containing three satinwood drawers and a sliding tray. The underside of the hinged top is centered with a rectangular mirror framed in ormolu and bordered with parquetry. The doors feature hand-painted Sévres enamel...

Renaissance Revival Bronze Ewers by Alphonse Giroux
By Alphonse Giroux et Cie
Located in Paris, FR
Pair of monumental bronze ewers in Renaissance Revival style featuring a celebration of Dionysian decadence. A bacchanal scene decorates the midsection of each ewer, presenting a motif of reveling putti in the throes of euphoric celebration. Several putti are dancing, drinking and playing musical instruments while another putto romps through the scene atop a ram. A Bacchante is laying down in a carriage, holding a grape vine.
The neck and spout of the ewers are elaborately decorated with foliage and grape vine, while a winged putto surmount the curved handle. The handle terminates at the body of the ewer with a ram's head, while the circular base is ornamented with a decorative wreath.
These mid-19th century ewers are beautiful examples of the revival of interest in the Renaissance art form during Napoleon III period. Signed ''ALPH. GIROUX PARIS'', for Alphonse Giroux...
