A rare ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ chaise lounge designed by Ben Seibel in the 1950s. This lounge has an elongated curved seat and a dramatically angled back with three tufts and welt detailing. It was newly reupholstered in a pale gray wool blend fabric and stands on four black tapered wooden legs with petite ball feet. USA, 1950s. Ben Seibel (1918-1985) was an American industrial designer recognized for popularizing sculptural tableware in American homes across the nation. Seibel was born in New Jersey and studied sculpture and painting before pursuing architecture at Columbia University. He left school to serve in WWII and never completed his schooling. This lounge chair is absolutely stunning! Designed by Ben Seibel, who is much more well known for his mid century modern tableware designs, this piece echoes his organic modern flair. This Ben Seibel lounge chair is definitely on the smaller, wider side, and is a gorgeous, classic example of mid century modern design-- it features clean lines, rounded edges, and tapered splayed cone legs that are bulbous near the bottom, that look more like a Paul Mccobb design than anything else. This stunning mid century modern chair has been upholstered in a high pile ivory boucle that just begs to be touched and sat in. I haven't had one person in the gallery since we've gotten this chair back that hasn't just gushed about it.
