Bruno Munari Wall Decorations

Italian, 1907-1998
In his prolific career, Bruno Munari was known for various contributions to art, industrial design, film, architecture, art theory, and technology. Munari’s principles and beliefs were built upon his early involvement in the Futurist movement, which he joined at the age of 19 using the pseudonym “Bum.” During the 1930s, Munari began to move towards Constructivism, particularly with his kinetic sculptures, Useless Machines (begun 1933), meant to transform or complicate their surrounding environments. Throughout his career, Munari was captivated by both a sense of whimsy and the manipulation of artificial light. After World War II, Munari also developed radical innovation in graphics, typography, and book publishing, through the latter creating pieces he would call Useless Books.

Gene Davis Pencil Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Exhibition Poster

By Gene Davis

Located in Hudson, NY

This poster for an exhibition undertaken by the Smithsonian Institution and was produced as a Resident Associates Program Exhibit for the organizations 10th anniversary. The work is pencil signed and numbered 80 of 200. Davis was born in Washington DC in 1920 and died in the city he gave so much to in 1985. A major 20th-century figure in American painting Davis's contributions to Washington were invaluable in helping to establish DC as a center for contemporary art. Davis is also recognized as a prime mover in the national and international Color Abstract Movement and his ascendance to prominence started in the 1960s. He was never formally trained and learned his craft by constant gallery and museum visits and later said that this lack of boundaries from education freed him from any limitation on his work or process. Davis worked within the loosely formed Washington color school of painters which included other artists like Kenneth Nolan...

We have the last few of these stunning silkscreens by Larry Smart. Larry came to us just a short while before his untimely death with a proposition to publish this print and to make a signed and numbered edition of 200 in fine art quality silkscreens. Sadly Larry was only to sign the first 50 before he was prematurely taken from us, so the edition is very small, just 50 pieces. Larry, you will be missed by true art lovers the world over! Larry was a friend of Jimmy Hendrix...

DESENHO – Silkscreen Print, Limited Edition by Álvaro Siza Vieira

By Alvaro Siza

Located in Lisboa, Lisboa

Desenho (Man Painting) - The painting shows someone who begins a drawing, looking on the paper with a pen in the hand. Álvaro Siza describes the very special moment of taking the decision to make a painting, facing the white paper. A reproduction of his situation, doing this series of paintings: not knowing what to do until the decision to draw was being made. Then the idea of mythology came to his mind. “It is, in some way, an expression of my personal moment making drawings. But it is not a self-portrait, I am quite different than this man. It is not a specific person on purpose, because everyone makes drawings. Maybe not everyone does it, but everyone could do it.” Álvaro Siza started drawing at the age of six. With a great variety of drawings on his portfolio, many of them are inspired by mythology and historic scenes. “The drawings are what came to my mind in this very moment. I like mythology and expressing the stories in images. I have made a lot of mythological drawing...

Cavalo de Troia (The Trojan Horse) - The drawing is a representation of the wooden horse, developed by Odysseus, which the Greeks used during the Trojan War to enter the city of Troy. The Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy, not knowing there was a selected force of men hiding inside, who came out after reaching the city. Álvaro Siza started drawing at the age of six. Vintage 20th Century Italian Campari "Lo Spiritello" Advertising Poster c.1970

Vintage 20th Century Italian Campari "Lo Spiritello" Advertising Poster c.1970

Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent

A striking Italian offset lithographic advertising poster for Campari, produced during the 1970s after Leonetto Cappiello's celebrated Lo Spiritello design of 1921. One of the most recognisable images in the history of advertising, Cappiello's exuberant composition has become synonymous with both the Campari brand and the golden age of European poster art. The design depicts the mischievous figure known as Lo Spiritello ("The Little Spirit"), dressed in a vivid red polka-dot costume and balancing a bottle of Campari while emerging from a dramatic curling orange peel. Set against a deep black background, the brilliant colours and simplified forms create an unforgettable visual impact, perfectly illustrating Cappiello's revolutionary approach to commercial advertising. The bold green Campari lettering anchors the composition, while the playful figure embodies the lively, sophisticated spirit that the company sought to associate with its famous aperitif. Originally created in 1921, Lo Spiritello is widely regarded as one of Leonetto Cappiello's greatest masterpieces. Often described as the father of modern advertising, Cappiello abandoned the highly decorative Art Nouveau style in favour of bold, simplified imagery set against dark backgrounds, producing posters that were instantly recognisable from a distance. His work transformed commercial poster design and remains among the most influential graphic art of the twentieth century. This example is a licensed Italian offset lithographic reprint produced during the 1970s by Officine Grafiche Ricordi, Milan, one of Italy's most prestigious printing houses. The printer's credit appears along the lower margin and is consistent with authorised mid-century reproductions issued for decorative display, allowing a new generation to enjoy Cappiello's iconic imagery while preserving the integrity of the original design. Today, Cappiello's Campari posters...
