After an apprenticeship as a silversmith at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich, Carl Jakob Jucker completed the preliminary course at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar under Georg Muche in 1922/23 before moving to the metal workshop of Christian Dell and László Moholy-Nagy. The lessons there gave him decisive impulses for his lighting projects. He developed lighting fixtures for the Haus am Horn in Weimar, a model house that was to bring together modern living and modern architecture in 1923.
